Port Blair, May 30: Andaman and Nicobar Police has arrested nine person for illegally lifting sand from Collinpur Beach.
On 26/5/12 at 2010 hrs on a credible information about few persons indulging the illegal mining of Sea Sand taking advantage of heavy rainfall and dark night at Collinpur beach, a team of police personnel led by SI Sahil Shamsuddin, SHO Ograbraj swiftly swung into action and raided the spot where 9 persons were seen transporting illegally mined Sea Sand in a Mahindra (Max) Pick-up Van No. AN-01-E-5244 of VMK Constructions, Ferrargunj and Mahindra Jeep bearing Reg No.
AN-01-F-4352.
The driver and other occupants of above mentioned Pick-up Van and Mahindra Jeep failed to produce any valid Voucher/Bill/TP for possessing the above mentioned quantity of Sea Sand therefore 09 accused persons involved in mining and transportation of Sea Sand including the drivers of both the above mentioned vehicles were detained on the spot and the pickup van loaded with about 2.2 cbm Sea Sand and Mahindra Jeep alongwith spades and Iron pans used for
mining Sea Sand were seized from the spot.
Later, the seized property and detained accused were handed over to the Range Officer, Tushnabad Forest Range for further necessary action under Forest Act.
The Police team which conducted the raid comprised of SI Adi Moorthy, PC/2342 Biju George, PC/2189 Israil Nelson, PC/1401 Rajdhari Yadav and HG(R)/221 M.V. Prasannakumar under the overall supervision of Shri. R.L. Meena, DySP (MASD).
