Port Blair, Sept 29: A training programme on Quarantine and Biosecurity of Aquatic Animals was held at ICAR-CIARI, Garacharma from Sept 27-29. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI. In his address, he emphasized the threat of invasive species and importance of quarantine and biosecurity of aquatic animals to protect the pristine Island ecosystem. Dr. Nagesh Ram, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK pointed out the benefits of good management practices in aquaculture. Earlier, Dr. R. Kiruba Sankar, Head (i/c), Fisheries Science Division welcomed the gathering and Mr. K. Saravanan, Scientist briefed about various activities of the training programme. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. J. Praveenraj, Scientist, Fisheries Science Division. A total of about 19 farmers from different villages of South Andaman like Wandoor, Manpur, Chouldari, Bimblitan, Maymyo and Badmaspahad attended the training programme. The training programme was conducted under the NSPAAD project funded by NFDB, Hyderabad.
