Port Blair, Jan 12: The Traffic Police gets frequent complaints about the plying of unauthorized luxury vehicles for transport of tourists and Government officials without tourist permits. The Traffic Police is regularly conducting checking of such luxury vehicles plying without tourist permits. During 2010-2011 a Total of 348 such Light Motor Vehicles have been booked by the Traffic Police and an amount of 7 6,92,100/- (Rupees Six Lakh Ninety Two Thousand One Hundred only) has been realized as fine.
Now the DGP has advised all Government Departments, Defence organizations, Hoteliers and Tourists, not to engage vehicles which do not have tourist permits for visiting guests or Government officials. The violators will be booked immediately under the relevant section of law if found plying without tourist permit, which will ultimately result in the embarrassment of guests and other travellers.
