Port Blair, Sept 25: Officers attending the 72nd Staff Course at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), the premier inter-services training institution at Wellington, Tamil Nadu are visiting Andaman and Nicobar from 18 September to 25 September 2016.
The DSSC is one of the few institutions of its type in the world where training in Command and staff duties is imparted over a period of 45 weeks to selected middle level officers of all the three Services – the Army, Navy and Air Force, as also to selected officers of the paramilitary and civil services, and those from friendly foreign countries.
During the visits to the three services components of ANC at Port Blair, the student officers have been briefed on various unique facets of these Islands, so that future military leadership remains sensitive to security imperatives. In order to familiarise the student officers with development, ecology and environmental imperatives, visits have been organised to Ross Island, Anthropological museum and Cellular Jail.
A total of 467students officers are accompanied by 58 instructors, among whom three are Major Generals or equivalent rank. Divided in two different groups, they have been addressed by Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command, Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, on 20 September 2016. Briefing for the second group is being carried out by Chief of Staff Andaman & Nicobar Command, Major General PS Sai on 23 September 2016.
