Port Blair, Sept 23: The villagers of Pan Nallah informed the Officiating Chairperson of A&N UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights about the concern over the dismal state of a group of young children aged between 6 to 14 years hailing from Pan-Nallah, Diglipur. The Pan-Nallah is situated near Beach Dera at Diglipur in North & Middle Andaman District. This small village is inhabited by a considerable population of Ranchi community who take up farm activities to make their ends meet. Around eight children from this village used to attend primary classes at Primary School, Beach Dera by walking down around 9 Kms from their hamlet through jungle. In the absence of even a makeshift road from their village to Beach Dera, these children from Pan-Nallah used to wade through muddy route along treacherous forests to attend their school. Their muddy route amidst the dense forests is infested with poisonous insects and snakes. While going against all these odds, these children were also under the threat of feral elephants which often invaded their routes. Due to these impediments which often came their way, the children used to be escorted by an elder from the village on a daily basis. During rain, the question of attending school for these children would become an arduous task since the inclement weather never allowed them to tread the treacherous path.
Having gone through such difficult phases, the parents of all these children had resolved to send their children to some homes or orphanages at Port Blair so that, their children would get their basic education uninterruptedly.
Accordingly, the Officiating Chairperson of the A&N UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights (A&N UTCPCR) on coming to know the pathetic condition of these children, has swung into action and brought all of them back to Port Blair on 04th September, 2016 with an aim of ensuring them uninterrupted primary education and the case was placed before the Secretary (Education) for getting admission to all the eight helpless children in a government or aided school at Port Blair and with the help of Secretary (Education) I could succeed to admit four boys students in the Government Middle School, Aberdeen Port Blair and accommodated them at Vanvashi Kalyan Ashram, Port Blair. As regards remaining four girls students, they were admitted in the Govt. Primary School, Kadamtala and accommodated them at Vanvashi Kalyan Ashram,Kadamtala.
Further, the Officiating Chairperson of A&N UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights urged the parents of socially and economically weaker section of these Islands to approach this UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights if they are facing any difficulties in the matter of education to their wards.
