Port Blair, Sep 17: As a medium for awareness creation the Department of Environment and Forests has adopted football game for spreading the message across islands on conservation, protection and remembering sacrifice made by forest staff who laid their life in protecting the forests and wildlife of this island.
As a part of 62nd Wildlife Week Celebrations, Wildlife wing of the department is organizing “Forest Martyrs Rolling Trophy Football Tournament” for the first time from 17th September onwards at JNRM football stadium, where 13 teams are participating in the event.
Dr Alox Saxena IFS, PCCF & Prl Secy (Env& For) the chief guest of the occasion, impressed upon taking sports as tool to reach and motivate people across all walk of society for conserving rare diversity of the island and to appreciate the effort of frontline staff who tendered supreme sacrifice for conservation and he also stressed upon to maintain true sportsman spirit while the course of this tourney. Shri M.S.Negi and Dr. Franchis Xavir, Principal JNRM were present as Guest of honor during the occasion along with other senior officers and faculties of Forest department and JNRM College respectively.
In the inaugural match between JNRM XI vs Mesack Sporting Club, the later had shown their tactical supremacy over JNRM till final minutes, but the young brigade of host JNRM had trashed their opponent with 4-2 score thus booking the berth for next round in the tournament.
