Port Blair, Sept 9: A Street Play on the theme “Suicide: Is it a right decision” was performed by the students of Psychology Department at the college premises on Friday. Students through their skit highlighted the probable reason behind committing of suicide. The skit demonstrated how youths can overcome from this tendency and save their precious life. The role of the “Yellow Lifeline Card” was also connected with this year’s theme “Connect, Communicate, Care”.
Earlier on Sept 7, “Post a pledge” corner was made by the club in the college premises which encourages students to paste their pledge on Suicide Prevention. Principal of the College, Dr R Dev Das inaugurated the corner by pasting his pledge and appealed to the students that the best way to help a depressed person is to simply listen and let them know, they are not alone and that you are there to help.
The club will also participate in the world wide campaign “Light a Candle”. Posters in this regard were displayed at different places within the college campus appealing to the students and local community to light a candle near the window on 10th September at 8.00 PM to show support for Suicide Prevention.
