Port Blair, Sept 8: On 6/9/2016 at about 1.35 pm, a special service call was received by Fire Control Room about flooding in the residential area at Telugu Basthi, Old Pahadgaon and the residents were in distress. Immediately the Water Tenders along with all accessories were pressed into action. On reaching the spot, it was noticed that around 30 residential houses were affected due to incessant rain. The water level rose to around 5 feet height and thereby the possibility of evacuation become difficult. Due to the prevailing condition and risk of life of the residents, the staff of Fire Station Garacharma swung into action and started rescue and salvage operation by tiding of rope and back picking-up method. Finally, as many as 16 people were evacuated safely which included two differently abled persons and two old age women.
In another service call received at 5.30 pm about a big tree which was uprooted due to heavy wind and soil erosion and crashed on the Hyundai Santro Car bearing No. AN 01E 3876 parked on the road side at Marine Hill. The staff of Fire Station Marine with Water Tender along with cutting and lifting tools rushed to the scene of incident and started mitigation operation. The task lasted for more than an hour and finally, the Fire Service personnel could succeed in removing the tree with minor damages to the car. As a result of prompt action by Police Fire Service in different scenarios during incessant rain, precious life and property could be saved. The entire operation was appreciated by the general public in the respective localities and officers and staff of A&N Police Fire Service showed high sense of responsibility putting their lives at risk.
