Port Blair, Sept 7: An awareness campaign on door to door collection and segregation of waste at source level will be organized at Municipal Sanitary Site Office (old Panchayat Hall), Ward No. 18, Garacharma on Thursday for implementation of proper Solid Waste Management. There will a demonstration on distinguishing of various types of waste and its segregation at source level. The households, shopkeepers and other stake holders of ward No. 18 have to deliver the segregated waste to enable the Municipal Council make a sustainable and acceptable Solid Waste Management Plan. This will be the premier new ward to start the door to door collection with segregation system of waste. The old 18 wards of the city also already practicing the door-to–door system as per the SWM rules. The general public of ward No. 18 have been hereby requested to participate in the programme as only the community participation will make the new system of door to door collection successful.
