Drugs have penetrated deep inside Andaman society and this is perhaps the time to accept the fact. Drug Peddling in Andaman and Nicobar Islands seems to have survived all possible raids, seizure and arrests. Even after dozens and dozens of arrests, cases of Ganja Seizure are continuing in Andaman and surprisingly in most of the cases huge amount of Ganja worth several lakhs are being seized by police. This indicates the growing demand for Marijuana in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
No doubt Andaman and Nicobar police is doing a great job in these Islands in developing intelligence and arresting the drug peddlers but it seems much more has to be done to weed out the entire drug peddling network.
In past atleast in four different occasions Ganja worth 3-4 lakhs/ per case have been seized by police and such huge quantity of Ganja is an indication that the demand has already been successfully created in Andaman by the drug dealers.
In past there have also been reports that Ganja have been seized from school students, this indicate the gravity of this situation and considering this, the Andaman and Nicobar Police must focus on reaching to the source of this Ganja network and arresting the kingpin of all the cases.
As in most of the cases Ganja comes via ships or courier, there is a need to keep an eye at both Chennai and Kolkata ports as even after x-ray baggage check, seizure of Ganja in Andaman, shows that everything is not alright at Mainland ports.
There is a need to strengthen the intelligent network. Only most deserving and highly resourceful staffs must be posted in CID and CCS units and their tenures must be increased so that intelligence network works without any disruption.
