Port Blair, Sept 4: The Up-Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Mr Subir Chander has urged the Administration to consider construction of a bridge between Minnie Bay and Mitha Khari.
“The administration has already taken up the project for constructing bridge or tunnel between Bambooflat and Chatham, which is need of the hour but the bridge connectivity between Minnie Bay and Mitha Khari should also be considered as an alternative solution,” said Mr Chander.
“The bridge between Minnie Bay Plantation area and Mitha Khari, if constructed, will offer a great solution to residents on the either side. Moreover, the construction expenditure for the bridge between Minnie Bay and Mitha Khari will be much lower when compared to the bridge between Chatham and Bambooflat,” he said.
The distance between Minnie Bay to Mitha Khari is approximately 0.98 kilometers and the sea is just 1 to 3 mtrs deep. Due to such low depth, passenger vessels are not operated on this route.
Construction of a bridge between the two points with low distance and depth will cost much lower.
“The suggestion has already been placed before the Chief Secretary who has forwarded the proposal to Andaman Public Works Department for further necessary action,” added Mr Subir Chander.
Great idea.,thanks to Mr. Chander for thinking in that height.In my opinion andaman needs good planner to develop the city.
In defense point of view andaman is playing a very impotent role after the ( the south china sea movements) plus its comes under a sensitive seismic zone (earthquake & tsunami).Then why not we have a alternate road which connects right from secreteriat/heart of the city to atleast Ferrargunj so in case of any blockage (rain/tsunami/attacks etc ) in existing ATR ,we will have an alternate connectivity to maintain the essential services.
Similarly many more thing can be planned if ANC/PBMC/Administration seat together to make some good plan to develop the city to a bench mark.
