Port Blair, Apr 15: While the Andaman Trunk Road remains on the main focus of Andaman and Nicobar Administration the narrow road of Wandoor sector remain as major threat to road users. The road which diverts from Dhanikhari Junction and goes towards Wandoor, remains always neglected. The uneven surface of Wandoor road has always been a major headache to the local residents as well as visiting tourists.
Adding to the pain the road is so narrow that if a heavy vehicle comes from opposite direction one has to go off the road to give way to the heavy vehicle.
The Chairperson of South Andaman Zilla Parishad, Mrs. Minati Biswas has also expressed concerned on this issue while talking to Channel One News recently. “Villagers are demanding double land road in wandoor area too since a long time,” the Chairperson said.
Wandoor is one of the must go spots for all visiting tourists and everyday hundreds of tourist vehicle uses the said narrow road, which causes a lot of discomfort for the cab drivers and tourists, as well.
At sharp turnings it becomes completely impossible for the cab drivers to give way to heavy vehicles coming from the opposite direction.
The single lane road is very dangerous for those who use the road during night hours and during Durga Puja season the road becomes totally overcrowded and causes hours long traffic jam.
Residents of the area have been demanding to convert the road into double lane so that road users of the region can drive their vehicles without any fear.
