Port Blair, Aug 30: A distress call was received at Police Station Campbell Bay from a local resident, R.Chadda, on Monday at around 3.30 pm stating that he along with four other persons of Afra Bay namely Adom, Standly, Abednigo and Devas left Afra Bay in a dinghy at 11 am for Campbell Bay. When they reached near Goal Tikrey, the engine of the dinghy malfunctioned and stopped working. Responding to the call, PMF Boat M.V Excelsior stationed at Campbell Bay with onboard staff S.I (M) O.Molla, HC/1505 C.Hanifa, HG/83 Ranjeet Kumar, HC/301 MC Sekhar and PC/1082 Debraj Singh immediately rushed to the spot and braving the bad weather, they rescued all persons and their dinghy. On checking it was found that only one life buoy was present in the dinghy. Dinghy operators have been advised to carry sufficient life jackets and Distress Alert Transmitter with them and in case of any distress situations, they should inform the Police immediately.
