Port Blair, Aug 29: Wild buffaloes are on rampage in Brichgunj area causing serious losses to a poor farmer.
According to reports, wild buffaloes have been entering into the agricultural land of a farmer, Ram Moorthy and destroying banana cultivation over the past few days. With no support from any agencies, the hapless farmer is now helplessly watching the wild animals uproot banana trees from his land.
“These wild buffaloes appeared from the Brichgunj Army Area after a massive construction project was launched recently inside the defence area. Wild buffaloes driven out of the defence area have been wreaking havoc in my agricultural land for the past several days. Banana trees have been uprooted and consumed by the animals and this had caused huge losses to me,” Moorthy said.
I have already lodged a complaint with the senior officers of Forest Department as well as Fire Brigade and even the Sub Divisional Magistrate for help, but till date no action has been initiated from any the authorities,” lamented Mr Ram Moorty.
A few other residents of the area have also complained about the same.
Wild buffaloes found in Brichgunj forest area are very aggressive and have also attacked people in the region in past.
