Port Blair, Aug 28: The recent move of Andaman and Nicobar Police Department to revert 44 ASIs to Head Constable, has left all these police jawans highly disappointed. A few are under huge stress and depression.
Adding to the pain, the police department subsequently issued another order to prepare the entire selection list once again, which directly means that all the demoted officers and also other who were qualified last time and even now will have to appear for the test once again.
Although the demoted Police jawans strongly challenge the move saying the court has never ordered to prepare the selection list once again, the police department maintains that the court order clearly says to conduct the entire process once again.
The confusion over this technical detail has left these 44 odd police jawans highly confused and upset.
Now questions are also being raised by several section of people that why nearly 13 officers who were promoted after these Police Jawans were not demoted, when the selection process was done against the vacancies of old RR, following new RR.
When Contacted the Director General of Police, Mr Rajesh Mallick said that as per the Court Order, the process has to be conducted all over again and this time the system will be fair, honest and transparent. “If anyone has any problem can directly come and contact me,” the DGP said.
However the question remains whether this statement of DGP means that last time the process was not fair, honest and transparent.
According to top police officers, promotion should be as per seniority basis and recently DGP has also changed the policy that promotions should be done in seniority basis, a system which is followed in the case of IPS Officers. This is largely because nobody wants to work under their juniors.
According to the Department the Court has issued an order that has to be followed as law cannot be changed.
Meanwhile some demoted officers recently met the Chief Secretary along with MP in this matter and it has been learnt that the CS has reportedly assured them to look into the matter.
It is learnt that the top bosses of A& N Police may meet all these 44 jawans tomorrow at Police Headquarter. It will now be interesting to watch how this matter reaches to a logical conclusion.

We must stand for those 44 Jawans. We have to understand their pain and agony they are going through. After hard work they all had achieved the success and now they have demoted ,whats is the logic here????Who is responsible for this mess. DGP have any answer for this? He asking “If anyone has any problem can directly come and contact me??Whats does it means???Would he solve the problem or ask them to set their mouth
I request all my Islanders to come up and support our Jawans. JAI HIND…..
WAKE UP MY DEAR ISLANDERS ….
