Port Blair, Aug 23: The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the next five days in the South Andaman region. In its agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Aug 24-28, 2016, CIARI forecast 108 mm of rainfall. The maximum temperature in South Andaman will be 30 to 33 o C with minimum temperature of 25 to 26 o C, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 76 to 81 %, and 73 to 77 % respectively in South Andaman. Wind speed of 14 to 20 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction, according to the bulletin. In the North and Middle Andaman region, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall in the next five days. In North and Middle Andaman 72 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature in North and Middle Andaman will be 30 to 32 oC with minimum temperature of 24 to 26 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 76 to 80 % and 72 to 75 % respectively in North and Middle Andaman. Wind speed of 11 to 17 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction. In Nicobar, cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to occur during next five days. Around 201 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 29 to 32 oC with minimum temperature of 24 to 26 o C, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be 78 to 80 %, and 75 to 78 % respectively in Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 18 to 26 kmph is expected from south Westerly direction.
Paddy famers in South Andaman and the North and Middle Andaman region have been advised to raise the rice main field bund at 15 cm height to harvest the rain water as moderate rainfall is expected during end of this week and vegetable farmers have been advised to spray micronutrient mixture @ 2 gm/lit in beans and brinjal in rain free days. Livestock farmers have been advised to harvest the rain water in pond or check dam for future use in agriculture and livestock and poultry farmers have been asked to provide calcium supplemented in the form lime to the Laying poultry birds for better egg production.
