Port Blair, Aug 23: Following reports of some traders transporting live fish seed to the islands from mainland through ship and air route, the Department of Fisheries has advised all concerned not to import any species of live fish of freshwater or marine including its juveniles or seedlings to the Islands from the mainland without proper clearance from the competent authority.

As per the provisions of A&N Marine Fishing Rule–2004, rule 16 (e) “Person, Trader, Firm or Organization shall not import any species of fish (Live) freshwater or marine including its juveniles or seedlings whether indigenous or exotic to the Islands. Provided such import is allowed for research or scientific or demonstration purpose by the Director of Fisheries on production of necessary quarantine clearance issued in respect of the consignment by the competent authority”.
