Port Blair, Aug 12: The Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajveer undertook a medical evacuation at high seas of a seriously injured crew from Merchant Vessel Golden Star on Thursday, while the vessel was transiting through Andaman seas on her passage from Singapore to Vizag. The Merchant Navy vessel was as the way from Singapore to Vizag when the senior engineer onboard, Mr. Recalde Reynaldo Chacon, a Philippine national, was grievously injured while working in the engine room. The sailor had imminent threat of life due to profuse bleeding and the merchant ship contacted Coast Guard Maritime Coordination Centre (MRCC) Port Blair for assistance.
Immediately, the tele-medical advice service were provided in the interim for patient management by the Coast Guard Regional Medical Officer. The Coast Guard Ship Rajveer was sailed with medical team onboard to rendezvous the Merchant Vessel in 10 degree channel and evacuate the patient. The Coast Guard Ship evacuated the patient off Little Andaman and basic medical aid including IV transfusion was provided to stabilize the patient. The patient was brought to Port Blair and admitted to GB Pant hospital for medical treatment.
