Port Blair, July 25: A mass protest was held by some Auto Rickshaw Unions in the city against the Andaman Nicobar Administration today but it failed to create much impact. Hundreds of people took part in the protest.
On July 19th of this month various Auto Rickshaw Unions kept some demands in front of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman but when no assurance came from DC office, the auto unions resorted to mass protest today.
The Auto Rickshaw Union also got support from the Bus Union as well as Travel Vehicle operators of the city.
The demands, kept by the Auto Rickshaw unions were to provide relief to them from challans, which is being imposed by the State Transport Authority, for road side parking, to notify an Auto Stand for them in the city, further to take action against the Jeep Operators who are violating their permit rules as that is hitting auto drivers hard.
However, it is learnt that later in the afternoon a delegation of Auto Rickshaw union was called by the DC, South Andaman, as per the delegation, has assured them of notifying an Auto Stand in the city soon and also assured them of cancelling the challans imposed by the STA upon them.
