Neil Island, July 17: Upset over growing alcohol addiction in Neil Island, all the 14 PRI members of the region recently met the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration and submitted a resolution demanding complete ban on the trade of liquor in the Island.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Ram Krishna Biswas, Pradhan, Neil Island said his office is flooded with complaints about the ill-effects of liquor particularly among youth who are getting increasingly addicted.
Once a very progressive Island has now been converted into an alcohol-addicted island, he said.
Families are being destroyed due to alcohol. Considering all the aspect, the PRI members of the region unanimously decided to seek a complete ban on liquor in Neil Island and a resolution to this effect was submitted to the Chief Secretary recently for declaring Neil Island as ‘Dry Island’.
The initiative is aimed at preventing the younger generation from falling prey to alcohol addiction, said Mr Biswas adding that the Chief Secretary has given a positive assurance to look into the demand on priority.
