Port Blair, July 12: Amid growing suicides and alcohol addiction in these islands, the Police band is drawing huge accolades for the Andaman and Nicobar Police.
A sizable gathering of people from different age-groups remain glued to their seats during the weekend performance of the Police Band at Marina Park and the initiative has come as a good entertainment avenue for the islanders otherwise famished people.
Andaman Sheekha recently noticed that a good gathering of children, youth and senior citizens were relishing the performance of the Police Band on Saturdays at Marina Park. Senior citizens remain glued to their seats for several hours, while children dance to the melodious tunes of the bank in the evening. However, the initiative has stimulated demands for more such shows by private Musical groups at places like Gandhi Park, Corbyn’s Cove, Joggers Park etc.
“Music reduces stress of people from different age-groups and the initiative of the Andaman and Nicobar Police has generated encouraging response. People from different parts of the city assemble at Marina Park on Saturdays mainly to enjoy the renditions of the Police band. Now NGOs should take a cue from the initiative of the Police and formulate schemes to engage people in activities like drawing, painting, street plays etc. Besides reducing stress, such activities will also prevent people from falling prey to alcohol addiction. The UT administration should also encourage private Musical Groups to take up initiatives like the Andaman and Nicobar Police. They should be engaged to present shows in places like Corbyn’s Cove, Gandhi Park, Joggers Park on weekends,” said some intellectuals from the city.

Will private music band do these kind of things for free as our andaman nicobar police team is doing……
