Port Blair, July 3: The Commander, Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Region, Inspector General Kuldip Singh Sheoran, PTM, TM, visited Coast Guard Station Mayabunder on Friday to review the security infrastructure development in the Middle Andaman region. Indian Coast Guard has inducted seven ships in the islands recently and and is progressing installations of surveillance radars to cover the entire archipelago. The phase I installation of radars at East Island (Diglipur), Sandy Point (Hut Bay) and Keating Point (Car Nicobar) has been completed and the last phase I radar at Birchganj (Port Blair) will be dedicated to the people of the islands by the end of this year.
The Inspector General Coast Guard visited the proposed site for installation of radar at Rangat in phase II. Radar stations are also proposed at Katchal Tarrasa and Campbell Bay. The Commander Coast Guard A&N region emphasized on the urgency for land acquisition and early execution of radar sites for improving the coastal security and maritime safety in the Andaman sea.
