Port Blair, June 26: A 06 days training programme (146th batch) on “Disaster Management & Disaster Preparedness” in Collapsed Structure Search & Rescue (CSSR) and Medical First Responder (MFR) which commenced from 20/06/2016 in the Conference hall of SP (District), SA’s Office, Port Blair to sensitize the Police personnel of various units as well as the staff from Forest, APWD & Electricity Deptt. was concluded on 25/06/2016. At the end of the course, a live demonstration on operation and maintenance of various search and rescue equipments like Chain Saw, Concrete Cutter, Air Lifting Bag, Hydraulic Cutter/spreader, Inflatable Light, Combi tools etc. was conducted by involving the participants in the premises of Police Fire Service (HQs), Port Blair.
Shri. B. Saigal, Chief Fire Officer, A&N Islands & Asst. Nodal Officer for Disaster Management was the Chief guest of the occasion. In his address, he appreciated all the participants for their active participation and briefed about the vulnerability surrounded the UT as it falls under Seismic zone-V (prone to earthquake), which experienced in the recent past Earthquake followed by Tsunami on 24/12/2004. Simultaneously he triggered the role of Police personnel and the staff of various Depts in responding such scenario. He further appealed the participants to utilize the knowledge and experience gained during the training programme in case of any emergent situation at their locality or workplace. The participants have expressed that the training programme has built the capacity of individuals to handle any emergency during the survival time takes for reaching emergency response team to the scene of disaster. Altogether, 23 persons were attended the training programme and they also shared their views and difficulties being faced and its remedies during the situation of emergency in length with the Chief Guest.
