Port Blair, June 24: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), North & Middle Andaman organised a three days training programme on “Current trends in Traditional Dairy Products” at Urmilapur w.e.f. 21/06/16 to 23/06/16. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Shri Biswajit Mondal, Pradhan, Urmilapur; Ms. Selani Sirki, Samiti Member, Urmilapur, and Shri.Namai Gain, PRI-member, Urmilapur village.
In his inaugural address, Shri. Biswajit Mondal appreciated the effort of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in dissemination of scientific information to the farmers. He highlighted the importance of dairying for the socio economic upliftment of villagers and motivated the villagers to come forward for dairy farming.
Ms. Selani Sirki informed the farmers that the training will provide all the necessary information related to dairy farming which will help them to improve their dairy farming practices. Shri. Namai Gain thanked the Krishi Vigyan Kendra for selecting the village for the programme and told the farmers to take the benefit from the programme. On the occasion, Dr. Shardul Vikram lal, SMS (Animal Science)/ course coordinator emphasized the need for clean milk production and informed about the methods to reduce the bacterial load in milk.
He also discussed on traditional dairy products such as khoa, panner, lassi, kulfi, peda and innovations therein. Speaking on the occasion, Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS. (Agril. Engg.) highlighted the importance of value addition in milk.
He said value addition in milk helps in improving the shelf life of milk and at the same time it ensures good market value for the product. In the three days training programme, the farmers were also informed about the basic information on breeding, healthcare, management, nutrition, and fodder production. A film show on growth story of Amul, Anand, Gujarat was also shown to motivate the farmers.
A total of 45 farmers and farmwomen were benefitted from the programme. This programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kashinath, Senior scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK and Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
