Port Blair, June 21: Various departments, Non Government Organizations, Educational Institutions including the Defense celebrated the second International Yoga Day today in a befitting manner at different areas of the city.
Starting from Port Blair, Sai Seva Samiti organized the 2nd International Yoga Day at Prothrapur Community Hall on today in coordination with the AYUSH Hospital, Andaman & Nicobar Islands from 6:30 am to 8:00am where ward councilor Mr Sanjay Meshack was the Chief Guest.
During the celebration Mr J.Venkata Ramana, Advisory Board member, ASSS explained the importance of Yoga and insisted the audience to practice Pranayam such as Bhastrika, Kapal bati, Alom Vilom, Bramhiri, for stress free, disease free life.
The program was later concluded by a Shanti Mantra by the instructor Mr Chotu Ram Sharma.
Meanwhile, “International Yoga Day” was also celebrated at Police Lines, PTS Prothrapur, Fire Service (HQ), IRBn (HQ) Port Mout and Conference Hall of PS Aberdeen together with the rest of the nation.
About 702 Police officers/personnel of A&N Police have participated in the mass yoga programme and performed various asanas with great enthusiasm. Similarly, the Andaman & Nicobar Police also conducted programmes in various units of North & Middle Andaman and Nicobar District.
At Mayabunder, 2nd International Yoga Day was also observed in the Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College, Mayabunder. About 50 Officers, Staffs, Students and Workers participated in the programme.
Dr. Ghosh, Medical Officer of Dr. R.P. Hospital welcomed the gathering and Dr. Ashok Kumar Pandey, Principal, Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College, Mayabunder addressed the gathering and briefed about the benefits of Yoga. The Yoga Instructor and participants practiced the Common Yoga Protocol.

Meanwhile, to commemorate the 2nd International Yoga day, Headquarters Coast Guard Region(A&N) in collaboration with Patanjali Yogapeeth celebrated the Yoga day at Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex on 21 Jun 16. More than 400 service/civilian personnel including families and children of Coast Guard fraternity participated with great enthusiasm and eagerness for practising the yoga.
Shri N. Murli Krishna President, Patanjali Yogpeeth conducted yoga session for the gathering and later delivered a lecture on the benefits of yoga and its importance in healing the various life style diseases linked with stress and food habits.
Inspector General Kuldip Singh Sheoran PTM, TM addressed the gathering and highlighted the benefits of yoga through regular practice so as to achieve better mental, physical and intellectual health. He further indicated that Yoga is not about exercise, but to experience the sense of oneness within self.
