Port Blair, June 7: A Paryavaran Suraksha Padyatra for the personnel of the Naval Ship Repair Yard, the premier ship repair organisation of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, was conducted on June 4 for creating awareness about the need of preserving our environment. The event was flagged off by Commodore DK Goswami, the Commodore Superintendent of the Yard. The participants walked a distance of over 5 km starting from NSRY and taking a route through the Foreshore Road. The families including the children of Yard employees participated in the event with a lot of enthusiasm.
As part of World Environment Day, tree plantation was undertaken by the participants in the Yard premises. The Commodore Superintendent spoke on the importance of such events in creating awareness about protecting our environment and maintaining it. It is our duty to maintain the delicate ecological balance of the islands and the Paryavaran Suraksha Padyatra is one such activity to motivate citizens towards environment conservation, he said.
