Port Blair, June 6: On Monday, On 6/6/2016 at about 0634 hrs a Special Service Call was received from Police Control Room that a house had collapsed at Haddo village, Port Blair. In response Fire Station Chatham’s staff along with Water Tender AN 01 C 0127 were rushed to the scene of occurrence. On reaching, it was noticed that a latrine (Toilet) block made of RCC had deracinated from the land due to heavy rain and found derailed towards steep slope and in which a girl child was trapped in the collapsed Toilet block.
Thus, there was no scope for the girl to get off from the toilet block as the situation was so dangerous as it was entangling towards the deep slope where a number of residential houses are located.
Immediately, rescue operation was started by using cutting and lifting tools.
Keeping in view of rains and delicate situation, assistance of Rescue Tender and staff from Fire Station Aberdeen were also requisitioned and the rescue operation was carried out by the officers and staff of Fire Station Aberdeen and Chatham cautiously considering the risk of life and property as there is every possibility of sliding of land due to heavy rain.
Due to the earnest efforts of the staff, the girl child viz Miss. Jayalaxmi aged 22 years, a student of MCA trapped in the Toilet block was rescued safely without any injury by cutting the steel door. As a result of prompt action, we could save the precious life and property. The entire operation was appreciated by the general public in the locality.
The rescue operation had lasted for an hour. The officers and staff of A&N Police Fire Service had applied their mind and showed high sense of responsibility by putting their lives in risk. The entire rescue operation was supervised by Shri. B. Saigal, Chief Fire officer personally.
