ICAR- KVK, N&M Andaman organized two training programmeson“Pond based integrated farming system in Islands condition”and “Importance of balanced diet for rural women & children” from 30th to 31st May and 01st June, 2016 inRadhanagarPanchayat. The trainings were inaugurated by ShriBhaskarMazumder, Pradhan, Radhanagar and Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Officer in-charge, PHC, Radhanagar respectively. In his inaugural speech ShriBhaskarMazumder expressed that more field oriented training programme are to be conducted in rural areas like Radhanagar which is far from Diglipur and most of the residents are small scale farmers. Training and practical demonstration will bring awareness about scientific farming and improve skills of farmers enhancing farm productivity for better family income, as said by him. He also thanked KVK, N&M Andaman for organizing need based training for farmers of Radhanagar. Dr. Gaurav Kumar while speaking on the occasion highlighted the need for healthy diet for growing children and carrying women making the nation more healthy and prosperous. He also urged the participants to receive maximum benefits from this training and learn about preparation of low cost balanced diets from locally available ingredients. Dr. Shailesh Kumar and Dr. PoojaKapoor, Course coordinators of training programmes briefed the participants about contents of two trainings and informed them about practical demonstrations and films to be conducted during the programme.
In the technical sessions of training programme on “Ponds based integrated farming system” topics covered include Scope and benefits of ponds based integrated farming in N&M Andaman, Scientific fish farming, rearing of fish in paddy field, poultry cum fish culture, scientific goat farming, rearing of honey bee and mushroom cultivation by Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Dr. PoojaKapoor and Shri B. L. Meena. Films on Cat fish culture, prawn farming, poultry farming, goat farming and rearing of honey bees were showed to participants
During the training on “Importance of balanced diet for rural women & children” presentation and film show were conducted on role of fruits and vegetables in daily diets, functions of nutrient in our body, balance diet, dietary requirement & recommended dietary allowances for women and children, importance of fish in human nutrition, role of cereals in daily diet etc. Preparation of low cost value added products were demonstrated to the participants during the training programme. The training was organisedunder the supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath and under the guidance of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director,CIARI, Port Blair.
