Port Blair, May 16: The Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee ( IMPCC ) for Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been reconstituted by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Ministry nominated R. Mohan, Director (Engineering), Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) as Chairperson and D V S Deep, Deputy Director (News), All India Radio (AIR) as Vice- Chairperson of the Committee.
All the heads of local central media units, Director of Information and Publicity, Andaman and Nicobar administration, Defence public releations officers, representatives of specialized publicity agencies for Agriculture, AIDS control, family planning etc. and the Publicity Officers of public sector undertakings will be the members of the Committee.
Addressing a press conference at PIB’s Mini Media Centre today, Mr. R Mohan said that the committee will hold regular meetings and identify proper themes for the coordinated Multi Media campaigns, besides preparing a common brief for the local media persons on important subjects. It will also review the monthly programme activities of different central media units and ensure better coordination among them as well as between the Central and State Information agencies.
“The IMPCC will also specially focus on the activities carried out as part of the Central Flagship Programmes such as Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act( MGNREGA), National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA) and plan for special publicity campaigns to make the programmes reach the targeted groups at grass-root level,” he said.
He said that in emergency situations, the local media executives could meet along with the Director of Information and Publicity and concerned officials of the State Government.
Addressing the media, Mr. A Dhana Shekaran, Assistant Director of Press Information Bureau said that the IMPCC ceased to function in the Islands since August, 2009 following the transfer of the then Director of Doordarshan Kendra holding the charge of the Chairman of the committee. The first meeting of the reconstituted IMPCC will be held in Doordarshan Studio at Port Blair on 30th of this month.
