Port Blair, June 01: The Department of Art & Culture organized the first of its kind Heritage Walk in the Islands on the occasion of World Heritage Day. The maiden heritage walk which explored the heritage structures and sites in ‘Aberdeen’ received encouraging response from all stake holders and general public. The Department is also initiating action for identifying one more heritage route in the Aberdeen and its surroundings.
To make the ‘Aberdeen Heritage Walks’ a regular feature, the Department of Art Culture proposes to conduct a half day Heritage Sensitizing Workshop on June 6, 2016 at the National Memorial Cellular Jail from 9 am to 1 p.m. with the aim to instill a sense of pride and belongingness among the people towards their heritage and sensitizing the future generation towards preserving their rich legacy. The workshop will also seek community involvement and stakeholder’s support and ownership of ‘Aberdeen Heritage Walks’. The participants will be taken for a heritage walk after the workshop. Willing and eligible participants will be shortlisted for a one week Heritage Guide Course through Indian Institute of Travel Management, Gwalior to be able to take up guided tours for school students, tourists alike.
