Diglipur 20 May: The drain slabs, which were drilled to make sewer opening by unknown contractor and left open for weeks have now been covered with cement slabs and iron lids.
Andaman Sheekha reported on May 9 that uncovered opening in sewers may turn into death trap which is kept open for more than 15 days in the centre of the Diglipur bazaar. After the news report the very next day APWD came into action and asked the contractor to complete the work.
Earlier for safety some public had covered the open drains with bitumen drums. Till recently, all the sewers in Diglipur were properly covered with RCC slabs. Now the drilled slabs are covered with iron plates.
As the drains are covered before the heavy rains the Diglipur Islanders are now happy.
