Port Blair, May 17: The Andaman unit of Indian Meteorological Department has said that the depression in the South-West Bay of Bengal, which is causing heavy rain in Sri Lanka and Southern India, will have no impact on Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Taking to Channel One News today the Assistant Meteorologist of IMD, Mr. D M Vel today said that the rain experienced in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are pre-monsoon shower and it has no connection with the heavy rainfall of Southern India.
He said that as it was earlier predicted Monsoon will hit Andaman on 22 May 2016.
The Met Department has already said that Nicobar Group of Islands are receiving heavy rainfall due to pre-monsoon activities however, Port Blair city, covered by thick cloud, is yet to receive heavy shower.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management department has issued High wave warning for people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Disaster Management department has urged public to remain alert during this season.
