Port Blair, May 11: The Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray along with three Councillors of PBMC, Mr. Eswar Rao, Mrs. Rubana Aziz and Mrs. Vinita Malhotra met Shri Venkaiah Naidu, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development, GoI, New Delhi on 10th May 2016 and shared the grievances related to PBMC.
The main points raised are allocation of Plan fund from the year 2011-12 to 2016 was 8% on an average Rs.140 Crores whereas it comes on an average Rs.500 crores which was recommended by the 3rd Finance Commission (UT) and approved by the MHA 25-35%; Accordingly 4th Finance Commission recommended on an average 35% of Plan fund but District Planning Committee representing Municipal Council and PRIs alongwith MP demanded – 25% which comes for the year 2015-16 i.e. Rs.900 crores; – 25% for Rs.2250 corres for the year 2015-16 is only Rs.169 crores i.e. 7.69% (including PRIs and Municipal Council) out of which an allocation of PBMC is only Rs.39.08 crore i.e. 1.78%; UT Commission recommended for non-plan fund of 2% to PBMC for maintenance of work but is was not implemented.
The Minister heard patiently and asked the delegation to meet the Home Minister and submit their demands and he would also personally talk to Shri Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister to redress their grievances at the earliest.
