Port Blair, May 8: The delegation of 59 Unemployed youth cooperative societies met the Chief Secretary on Saturday and held discussions on concerns being faced by the cooperative societies. Major among the issues include award of civil construction works to unemployed youth Construction and Labour Contractor Co-operative Societies by Municipal council as being done by Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), re-introduction of credit guarantee schemes to Co-operative Societies to avail credit from the financial institutions, creation of Public Grievance and Guidance Cell in Co-operative department under the charge of a Senior Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies, action on recommendations of the committee constituted vide Administration order No. 1264 Dt 28-03-2000 for identification of works to be awarded to unemployed youth Co-operative Societies, extension of various concessions as recommended by the committee constituted under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner on 22-11-2006, allotment of land/ shed to Unemployed Youth Construction and Labour Contractor Co-operative Societies in Industrial Estate, allotment of shops to Co-operative Societies constructed by Municipal Council/ PRIs out of grant-in-aid sanctioned by the Administration and enlistment of Co-operative Societies in APWD and other agencies.
The Chief Secretary assured to resolve the problems after going into the details of the matter. The Chief Secretary also decided to draw a time-bond action plan for resolving the points raised and discussed and also meet frequently with the representatives of cooperative societies. The representatives of various Unemployed youth cooperative societies also actively participated in the discussion.
Earlier, The Chief Secretary was welcomed by Mr N Ponnaiah and Mr Das Gupta presented bouquet and shawl to the Chief Secretary and expressed their gratitude for sparing his valuable time even on holiday. The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, APWD and the President Unnati which is working for promotion of Unemployed youth cooperative societies in these Islands.
