Port Blair, May 6: The entire Headquarters Andaman & Nicobar Command committed itself to Shramdaan (Swachhta Abhiyan) on Thursday. All ranks joined hands to maintain the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in HQ area. Whilst the ‘Shramdaan’ was an extension of the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyaan which is an ongoing process, emphasis was on relocation of discarded fire hazards such as furniture and removal of unwanted vegetation and foliage from the office premises including rooftops of buildings, drains and surrounding areas. In addition to minimising likelihood of fire accidents in the continuing dry and hot weather, it would also prevent snake bite cases and improve water drainage with the onset of monsoon season, which is just around the corner.
