Port Blair, April 13: The Andhra Association here celebrated UGADI 2016 (Telugu New Year) on April 8 in the auditorium of the association. To mark the Ugadi celebration, Panchanga Shravanam delivered by Pandit Vijay Kumar Patro.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, Mr P. Surya Rao, President, Andhra Association praised the association for organizing such cultural and traditional values of Ugadi festival. The special guest Mr S. Sudarshan Rao and guest of honor Mr R. Someshwara Rao greeted the Telugu people on the eve of Telugu New Year and appreciated the efforts made to preserve the cultural & traditional values of Telugu people in these islands. Mr V. Keshav Murthy, General Secretary and Mr B. Chiranjeevulu, Secretary also spoke on the occasion. Mr S Sudarshan Rao, Director/Scientist -E, Gol, Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi. Guests of Honour Mr B. Eswar Rao, PBMC Councillor, W.No. 14, Mr CH. Babu, PBMC Councillor, W.No. 12, Mr R. Someshwara Rao, PBMC Councillor, W.No. 15. Mr Shri V.Keshav Murthy, General Secretary, Mr K.Vasudev, Vice President, Mr B. Chiranjeevulu, Secretary, Mr P. Vemana, Treasurer of the Association felicitated the chief guest, special guest and guest of honours with shawl, bouquet and mementoes.
An enthralling colorful cultural events were presented by the various wings of the Telugu Community received rounds of applause by the jam packed audience. As a part of programme, all the above guests and Commendation certificate recipients of the Telugu Community of various fields working under the Administration viz Shri P. Rama Rao, Shri P. Veeraswamy, B. Adhinarayana, Dr. Mrs. T. Kusumakumari, Ph.D, Kumari. K. Divya, Dairy Farm, Kumari P. Lalitha, Kr. K. Manu Teja, Kr. P. Mahesh, Shri K. Neelakantam were also felicitated.
Class XII & X students of Telugu Medium Schools of Haddo, Dairy Farm, Bambooflat who topped in respective classes and Xllth & Xth Students of Telugu Schools who topped in Telugu Language were also given Cash award and Certificate by the Association.
