Port Blair, Mar 23: Lt Governor A&N Islands Lt Gen A K Singh PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd) will launch BSIV Grade of fuels for A&N Islands at a function to be organized at Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Port Blair Terminal on 28.03.2016 at 09:30 AM in presence of Shri Bishnu Pada Ray Hon’ble Member of Parliament A&N Islands.
From April 2005, in line with the Auto Fuel Policy of 2003, BS-III and BS-II fuel quality norms came into existence for 13 major cities, and for the rest of the country respectively.
Subsequently, BS-IV and BS-III fuel quality norms were introduced from April 2010 in 13 major cities and the rest of India respectively.
The penetration of BS-IV motor spirit (petrol) in the domestic market a full four years after its introduction in the metros, was just about 24 per cent, and that of BS-IV high speed diesel only 16 per cent, according to government data which was up to August 2014.
India has been following the European (Euro) emission norms. BS-IV norms are currently applicable in 33 cities and it has been decided by GOI that by 1st April 2016 following states will also comply BSIV standard of automotive oil those are Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Telengana, Odisha and the Union Territories of Daman & Diu, Dadra-Nagar-Haveli and Andaman & Nicobar, Parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
With the introduction of the BSIV grade of fuels A&N Islands will become one of the few selected states/ UT where the automotive fuel will have the minimum Sulphur contain ( 50 parts per million) this will have positive effect in the environment and ecology in these pristine islands.
