Port Blair, Mar 22: A large group of students and teachers of well known Mayo Girls College, Ajmer visited Raj Niwas and interacted with the Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd). The students from the Mayo Girls College, Ajmer who are on a visit to the Islands were elated to see the gardens and other attractions of Raj Niwas.
Interacting with them, the Lt Governor stated that the A & N Islands is not just a place of tourism but is also a place of pilgrimage for the people of the country as it has contributed greatly in the freedom struggle. Describing the Islands as Mini India, the Lt Governor said the people of the Islands, despite hailing from different religions, castes and speaking different languages live in peace and harmony. It is a true representation of our Constitution, which needs to be emulated by other states of the country. Referring to women power in the Islands, he said girls of the A&N Islands are immensely talented. The Islands girls have excelled in various National and International sports events. Citing the example of Miss Deborah, he said this girl from Nicobar is the best cyclist in India and is presently placed 4th in the world rankings.
On being asked by the Lt Governor as to what they liked the best in the Islands, most the girls replied that the enchanting natural beauty of the Islands has won their hearts. They also expressed their gratitude to the Hon’ble Lt Governor for providing them the opportunity to visit Raj Niwas.
