Port Blair, Feb 19: The Chief Port Administrator of Port Management Board, Dr. R D Tripathi today rubbished all the reports, which say that the Aberdeen Jetty is ‘Unsafe’ for boat operation. Talking to Andaman Sheekha today the Chief Port Blair Administrator said that the tourist boat operation for Ross, North Bay and Viper was suspended from Aberdeen Jetty for nearly a month because some works had to be done with the steps, suspenders, some superficial structures etc., which are already over. He said that recently a team of experts from Jadavpur University visited the Jetty and has certified that the Jetty is safe.
The CPA said that this time of suspension of tourist boat at Aberdeen Jetty was selected because during this time the sea remains rough and because of swells it become difficult for people to board the boats.
“Considering these, it was decided with the approval all concerned to shift the services of tourists boats for Ross, North Bay and Viper to Junglighat for time being. It was decided once the work is done the services will be brought back to Aberdeen,” he said.
He said that in anyway it can’t be said that the Jetty is unsafe for public.
