Port Blair, February 05: The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution , Mr Ram Vilas Paswan today launched the Food Security Act by distributing the cards to 5-10 Islanders at Megapode Nest Resort.
Addressing a press conference after the launch Mr Pashwan said that nearly 63000 people in the islands will be the beneficiaries of this Act. He further said that he wants to give the card to all the people who comes under this act and therefore requested the support of the administration, Bureaucrats.
He further said that till now the act is implemented in 27 states of the country and a lot of people in the country are getting the benefit of Food Security act.
Mr Ram Vilas Paswan further said that he came to know that about 34 thousand Ton of food is allocated for the islands but only 16 thousand ton is optimised and therefore he asked his Secretary and the Secretary Civil Supplies, Andaman & Nicobar Islands to have a discussion regarding this issue. He further also asked the officials of Civil Supplies Department whether these islands need any Godown.
