Port Blair, Feb 03: The PCC President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma met the Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Port Blair on 2/2/2016 and informed that the pension of Rs. 2000/- p.m. paid to widows, old aged persons and Handicapped persons is insufficient to meet their day to day expenses at present market rate of daily needs.
This pension amount was fixed long back. The price of essential commodities have increased many fold thereafter.
He urged the Lt. Governor to look in to the issue and increase the their pension amount from Rs.2,000/- to Rs.5,000/-p.m.
The President, PCC has also draw the attention of the LG towards the difficulties being faced by the general public of Campbell Bay due to non touching of ships plying between Port Blair and Chennai. The Chennai bond ship was last touched Campbell Bay during October 2015.
Thereafter no ship has been touched Campbell Bay. The PCC president requested the LG that the next sailing of Chennai bond ship is touched Campbell Bay for the benefit of general public of the area who are waiting for the past more than four months. The PCC President also urged the LG to ensure that Chennai bond ship is touched Campbell Bay at least once in a month so that the public could avail their journey directly from Campbell Bay without reaching Port Blair.
The Lt Governor, A & N Islands gave a patient hearing to the issue raised by the PCC President and assured to look into the matter.
