Port Blair, Jan 27: On the occasion of 67th Republic Day, a ceremonial parade was held at Birchgunj Military Station, Port Blair, on 26 January 2016. Vice Admiral PK Chatterjee, PVSM, AVSM, NM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command, reviewed the Parade. It was led by Colonel Vijay Vir Singh Dahiya. Contingents of the four components of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard alongwith NCC, Navy Children School and Kendriya Vidyalaya participated in the Parade. The Veterans’ contingent in particular drew special applause for their enthusiasm from the huge audience.
Each marching contingent comprised of one officer, three Junior Commissioned Officers and twenty four Other Ranks. The assets providing cutting edge to the ANC such as Army’s BMP-I tracked amphibious troop carrier, MI-17 V5 Utility helicopters of the Air Force and Dornier aircraft of Navy and Coast Guard were also on full display. Naval and Coast Guard ships completed the show as they sailed through the sea in the picturesque background. The contingent led by Capt Alok Thakur was adjudged the “Best Marching Contingent” of the Parade. Whilst marching standards of respective contingents reflected the ubiquitous competitive spirit, the synergy on display amongst participants of four Services during the entire event brought to fore the level of integration achieved by the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
