Port Blair, Jan 11: On 11/01/2016 a meeting with yellow taxi and truck operators was held in the conference hall of office of Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District in presence of Shri R.K. Pandey, IPS, SP/Traffic, Shri Atul Kumar Thakur, IPS, SP, South Andaman. The meeting was attended by around 25-30 yellow taxi and truck/van operators operating in Port Blair and rural areas of South Andaman. SDPO/SA, SHOs Pahargaon, Aberdeen & Chatham. were also present in the meeting. SP(SA) discussed some fatal accidents which had occurred in the past resulting the loss of innocent lives and suffering of the families. He directed the operators to take various precautions like keeping the fitness & pollution check of their vehicles, following speed limits in rural & urban areas and also behaving well with the tourists and not to harass them. They should also keep in mind that the road is also to be used by pedestrians, cyclists, two wheelers and so they should take adequate precaution while driving. They should desist from reusing old vehicles for public transportation and driving under the influence of alcohol.
SP/traffic informed that traffic week is going to be observed throughout the nation and the A&N Police will also conducting various programmes like blood donation camps, eye check up of drivers etc. He directed all the state holders to actively participate in the programmes and cooperate in management of traffic and its control in A&N Islands.
