Diglipur, Jan 02: When the entire world was celebrating New Year and people were sending greetings to others via social media, the North and Middle Andaman region was under total Internet blackout.
For three continuous days people of North and Middle Andaman felt the pinch of BSNL’s internet blackout that too when the Minister of Telecom is visiting these Islands.
On the morning of 31st Dec, the BSNL Optical Fibre cable was damaged at Billyground due to some road digging works carried out for road widening.
The OFC could not be repaired as the excavator operator went away after digging. A temporary connection was established at night 2.00 am but again on the next day morning i.e. on New Year at 8.00 am the connection was lost again.
On 1st Jan BSNL staffs repaired it by late evening but the OFC was again damaged in the early morning on 2nd Jan at Jirkatang and got repaired again by late evening.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that neither any action was taken against the Excavator owner nor the matter has been reported to police, as it should happen in normal case.
People of North and Middle Andaman demand that on the road side, where OFC has been laid, any digging work should be carried out only in presence of BSNL staffs.
