Port Blair, Jan 03: Division of Fisheries Science (DFS) of ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute distributed the OBM engines to the selected tribal Fisherman’s under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and conducted a awareness programme on “Maintenance of OBM Engines and Operation Of GPS” on 29th December, 2015 at Campbell Bay.
During the inaugural session the Chief Guest of the program, Shri Barnabaas, Chairman Tribal Council Campbell Bay praised the Division of Fisheries science, ICAR-CIARI for their efforts to develop skill and manpower in marine fisheries among tribal fishers and appealed the tribal fishers to harness maximum benefit for their livelihood.
Knowledge and skill were imparted to the trainees like operation of GPS for safe navigation, installation and use of outboard engines in the traditional ‘hodi’s’,etc. A total of 18 tribal fishers participated in the programme.
Shri Venkatesh R. Thakur and Shri J. Praveen Raj from Division of Fisheries Science, ICAR-CIARI with Chairman and secretary Tribal Council Campbell Bay were present during the event.
