anniversary of Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Late Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime Ministers of India, in recognition of their contribution towards promotion of science for the welfare of farmers. Similar programme were also conducted by the KVK, South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman for the benefit of the farmers, youths, school children and women of the respective area.
On Dec 28, a mini quiz competition was conducted by Mr Amit Srivastava, STO. ON Tuesday, a visit to Dweep Krishi Darpan was organized wherein technologies displayed in agri, horticulture, fisheries, field crops, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, innovative tools and techniques were shown to the women participants coming from different background. The highlight of the programme was scientists-farmers-interaction which was chaired by Dr. A. Kundu, Director I/c. Dr. R.K. Gautam, HoD, Field Crops Improvement and Protection & H&F, Dr. B. Gangaiah, HoD, NRM, Dr. R. Kirubasankar, HoD, Fisheries, Dr. Jaisunder, Principal Scientist spoke on the crop varieties, soil health management, fish rearing techniques, avenues in agriculture and role of CIARI and its ToT programme and International Year of Soil by Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist and I/c Social Science Section respectively. The questions answer session was deliberated by Dr. Jaisunder, Dr. Bharatimeena and Dr. Ajit Waman.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. A. Kundu, Incharge, Director expressed his happiness on the conduct of the programme in a successful manner and assured to extend all the help by the team of scientists in providing knowledge and exposure to the Institute.
More than sixty women participants representing from SHGs, NCUI belonging to Telyarabad, Tusnabad, Wandoor and Sippighat attended. The programme was coordinated by Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist and Mr. Amit Srivastava, STO of CIARI.
