Port Blair, Dec 6: While the sudden revision of school timings has left a section of parents disappointed, the Education Department of the Administration maintains that the decision was taken in the interest of school children.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the Secretary, Education, Smt Tanvi Garg said that residents of Municipal areas have been long demanding revision of school timings as early school hours forced students to skip breakfast making them vulnerable to weakness.
Moreover, the new education policy has also laid down certain guidelines regarding school timings. Besides, the revised school timings will also help in reduction of carbon footprints in the city, informed Smt Garg.
The Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands had recently revised the existing timings of all the schools in the Port Blair Municipal area of Andaman & Nicobar Islands except schools running in shift system with effect from Dec 1, 2015 in the academic session. Accordingly, the timing for all private Schools in Municipal area will be 8.15 am to 2.15 pm, while Govt. Schools in Municipal area will function from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm.
