Port Blair, Dec 2: Disaster preparedness is the thrust area of the Andaman and Nicobar Command under the guidance of Vice Admiral PK Chatterjee, PVSM, AVSM, NM, Commander-in-Chief. As part of the disaster preparedness, a three day capsule course on first aid and basic nursing training for families was organised in Sep 15 at the Naval Residential area in Vijay Baugh. The second capsule course in the series was organized at Likabali auditorium, Brichgunj cantonment in Oct 15.
The third capsule course was organized at Air Force Station Prothrapur from Nov 30 to Dec 2, 2015. Lectures and practical demonstrations are conducted by medical officers and nursing officers. The aim of the capsule course for families is to train them in first aid and nursing procedures so that they may become self- reliant at home and be of help during disaster relief operations in this Command.
Twenty eight families are being trained in the capsule course. Chief Staff Officer (Medical) of Andaman & Nicobar Command stated that the course including refresher courses would be conducted regularly in the Army, Navy and Air Force residential areas.
