Port Blair, Nov 20: As a part of the campaign against “Ill-Effects of Drug Abuse & Alcoholism”, this Directorate has already organized 30 awareness programmes till today which was started on 3rd October, 2015. Shri. A. K. Biswas, Probation Officer of this Directorate welcomed the gathering and discussed various issues and the ill-effects of alcohol & other substances in the society.
The campaign was organized for the sanitary workers and staffs at Community Hall, Delanipur wherein more than 100 staffs including male and female attended the programme.
Shri. K. Ganeshan, Councilor of Ward no. 8 was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He also suggested that such programmes should be continued on regular basis so as to create awareness among the society. Mrs. Rasheeda, Sub-Inspector of Police Station, Chatham has focused various impacts in the family/society.
She also interacted with the women folk who were present in the function and could gather certain information and also suggested various remedies which can be done by the women folk to reduce the consumption of alcohol in their family in particular.
The Department will continue such programme on regular basis in all other Islands on a time bound basis.
