Port Blair, Nov 5: In surprise raids at Mohanpura Fruit Market and Ratnam Market, the Enforcement team of the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs led by Mr Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology found one jewellery Shop, one Cloth Merchant, four Vegetable vendors and five fruit Sellers violating Section 15 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 i.e. found using unstamped weighing and measuring instruments for transaction. Besides, one Grocery shop owner found kept for sale the packages obliterating the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on the packages, thus violating the provisions of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. Altogether, eleven cases are compounded and a compounding fee of Rs 26,000/- was imposed on the defaulters. One case is under process and appropriate action will be initiated in due course.
All consumers have been appealed that in case of any complaints such as over-charging of packaged commodities beyond MRP, less weighment, any unfair trade practice etc., may be brought to notice in writing to the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Port Blair.
